Energy is everything and everywhere. We crave good, strong and positive energy whilst working hard to avoid the negative. Positive energy makes us feel alive and vibrant, whilst the negative can leave us feeling like a wrung-out dish rag. So, doesn’t that make optimising our energy kind of important?
We can all feel energy to varying degrees of awareness, but how many of us routinely think about, seek and harness the good stuff, whilst mindfully and deliberately shunning the bad? Not as many as you’d think, which is how some people can get stuck in unresourceful relationships, careers and general dissatisfaction. This is where I come in, as much of my work as a Life Coach has me revealing to clients how they are unnecessarily trapped in such hot pockets of negative energy, and yes, they really do have what it takes to jump out. Honestly, it’s like the scene in The Wizard of Oz: “You had the power all along my dear”, as an epiphany washes over them.
Your life will go in the direction of your attention. Imagine a tightrope walker, nosebleed high and traversing two tall buildings. What is the last thing you will see them do? Look down. Why? Because their life will go in the direction of their attention, which is terrifyingly down in this example. As you’re attempting great things in your life, stop focusing on what you don’t want because that’s what you’ll attract. Instead, focus on what you do want and attract that.
This is what I mean about people being unmindful of where their energy and attention is flowing. The number of people I see glued to their devices for news, social media and the Housewives of Skegness [I may have made that one up] are all directing their attention towards empty nonsense. They need to take back their minds because what controls their attention, controls their lives.
If, i.e.: the news is filling your cognitive system with fear and worry, that’s exactly what you’ll see and perceive all around you. But this works in reverse too. If you reject the negative or gossipy nonsense and actively seek out the positive, life/career/relationship-enhancing experiences, then that is what you’ll get. You will actively be creating the kind of world you want to live in.
Not enough people understand that our attention is our most sacred gift to give, so we must give it to our friends, family and loved ones, in addition to our dreams, goals and aspirations. It’s only our own energy and attention that’s going to achieve these things for us, so why squander it on the silly, corrupt and empty?
One last thing. Once the mind is distracted, it’ll crave more distraction, which is a dangerously slippery goal killer. If you want to find out how much attention you’re wasting just on your phone alone, go to Settings > Battery and see for yourself.
Now are you ready to make a change?
Remember, it’s easier to avoid than resist.
