Personal improvement is a widely used term that stands for any process that is meant to bring about any positive change in a person. To be able to effectively create a personal development plan for oneself, it is important to have a clear understanding of the concept, the things that it covers, as well as the factors that can make any personal development initiative successful.
Personally is defined as that set of distinct thoughts, behaviors, feelings and sensations that are associated with a particular individual. Personal development, on the other hand, refers to the process of improving oneself across all facets, including relationships with friends and family, work habits, and overall perception of life. For many psychologists, development includes the process of seeking improvements physically, intellectually, emotionally and socially. In fact, a highly developed person is someone who exhibits a harmonious set of all these facets.
There are lot of factors that can contribute to the success of any development effort. But first things first: any personal development initiative has to be built on the fact that development is built on a person’s individuality, and how this individuality relates to his or her environment and to the circumstances. Personal development entails harnessing oneself so that one’s actions and words can have a positive impact on one’s life. There are five factors that help to ensure that a person can effectively meet his or her personal development goals. These are: 1) having a positive outlook in life; 2) learning how to keep oneself motivated; 3) recognizing one’s strengths; 4) learning how to use body language effectively; and, 5) learning how to handle and deal with different types of people.
